Carmichael Redwing FT/6 CrT Land Rover

FT/6

ROAV Mid-Atlantic Rally - 2004

(written well after the fact)

Remember last year? No oil pressure - which turned out to be a falty sender for the idiot light.
Well, this year The Carmichael has guages. Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, Voltmeter.. No question about what is going on under the hood.

Right..

It was yet another fun trip... This time the problems started soon. We got maybe five miles down the road and the Carmichael started running bad.. Stop.. tinker with things.. go... stop... tinker some more... go.... stop...

I don't think we got 30 miles...

Now, we had a caravan going.. a SWB IIa, a Range Rover, a 80" on a trailer... your basic herd of turtles..

And, we kept on stopping.

The problem seemed to be with the carburator, more than anything else. Q said he had a Weber at home. We should have brought it along. I said I had a brand-new shiny Weber in a box in the back of the truck. Complete with all the linkage bits...

So, it got installed.

What a differance! The truck ran great.. We actually made an indicated 65 MPH on the flats in overdrive.

Of course, we had other problems... Like a leaking coolant hose on the Range Rover on the way there and a "cooked" overdrive in the SWB IIa on the way back.. But, we did get there and back.

Oh yeah.. The new guages? Worked great. Too bad I lost the dash lights on the way home.

Pictures? Somewhere... I'll get them posted.
